Frequently Asked Questions

About Desired Living

Where is Desired Living in the build process?

We are currently designing and planning a facility in Kitchener, Ontario, that is expected to be completed by 2027. Please contact us if you would like to be added to the waitlist so we can share more information with you as soon as it becomes available.

How is Desired Living different from other living options for people with special needs?

Ontario living environments for people with special needs commonly do not offer optimal living situations. As a non-profit living environment in the development phase, Desired Living stands apart by bringing the best of other options together under one roof.

Accommodations and Living Spaces

What types of living spaces are available?

One-, two-, and three-bedroom units will be available, each with their own living room space and kitchenette. To find out more about availability, click here to contact us.

Can residents personalize their living spaces?

Yes. Desired Living is a community to call home, and personalized living spaces help ensure all residents always feel at home.

Can I move into a double room with a friend?

Yes. 2 rooms are possible in our 550 sq ft spaces where you can move in with a friend and have two rooms and two bathrooms. Payments for the 2 occupants will be the same as double occupancy, but we can split the price in half to ensure equal payments. Both residents will receive the same experience and the same health benefits.

Are there common areas for socializing and activities?

Yes. Our common areas for socializing and activities will include a four-season arboretum with waterfalls, streams, and plenty of room for walking, a greenhouse for residents to grow their own plants, a dining room where residents can enjoy delicious meals prepared by our kitchen staff, a café where residents can gather to socialize and enjoy their favourite snacks and beverages, and large family rooms for residents and their families to gather. If meal service is needed, our kitchen staff is happy to provide it, typically at a nominal cost. To ensure all residents and their families can easily enjoy all shared spaces, all amenities will be located on Desired Living’s ground level with full wheelchair accessibility.

Activities and Social Life

What recreational activities and events are offered?

We understand that everyone has unique recreational needs, and we strive to create a vibrant and engaging environment that fosters social interaction, personal fulfillment, and overall well-being. Our recreational activities are designed to cater to a wide variety of interests, ensuring that there is something enjoyable for everyone.

How is social interaction encouraged among residents?

The overall open and accessible design of Desired Living encourages and facilitates social interaction and underscores the reason we call Desired Living a community.

Costs and Payments

What is the cost of living at Desired Living?

Costs are situational, depending on what you need. There are rental and life lease options available. For a better idea of costs, click here to provide your name and contact information, and we’ll get in touch to discuss your needs and associated costs.

When do we need to pay for the room?

Payment is not required until the official form is signed. Currently, we are taking registrations where we put your name on a list. Once the Township officially approves the build, we will have the documents signed. Once the Township approves, there will be an official site plan and building layout.

Security and Safety

How is security ensured within the facility?

At Desired Living, ensuring the safety and security of our residents is our top priority. We are in the planning stages to implement comprehensive measures to provide a secure environment within our facility. One key aspect of our security strategy is the presence of on-site security staff who are available 24/7. These dedicated professionals are trained to monitor the premises, respond swiftly to any security concerns or emergencies, and ensure the well-being of everyone on-site.

What safety measures are in place for residents?

We have both day and night staff outsourced for resident safety to ensure continuous monitoring and support. Additionally, we have outsourced security personnel for night shifts to enhance security measures during nighttime hours.
